The London 2012 Olympics came to a close tonight (August 12), after 16 days of frankly astonishing sporting achievement and a sterling performance from the athletes of Team GB.
Billed as a 'Symphony of British Music', the range of pop talent on offer didn't disappoint, with performances from Madness, One Direction, Pet Shop Boys, Elbow, Ray Davies and Emeli Sandé.
George Michael, Kaiser Chiefs, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Taio Cruz, Tinie Tempah, Beady Eye, Eric Idle, Muse, Queen and a Beatles-singing Russell Brand also wowed the worldwide audience.
However, the night was crowned, of course, by the Spice Girls
, with the fab fivesome reuniting to inject some Girl Power into proceedings with renditions of 'Wannabe' and 'Spice up Your Life', Take That, who performed a triumphant rendition of 'Rule the World', and The Who ending the whole show with a medley of their classic tracks.
