Heidi Montag: 'Being Hills Heidi nearly destroyed me'

Heidi Montag has confessed that she regrets the person she became on The Hills.

The 25-year-old reality star revealed that she often played up her personality and relationship with husband Spencer Pratt for the cameras and became something she was not - an identity that nearly "destroyed" her life.



"[Spencer and I] are not those people on The Hills anymore," she explained in an interview with Celebuzz.

"We never were. It was more an acting role than anything else. But we played those characters and when you start playing a character you kind of start to become more of a character.

"I didn't realise that pretending to be this 'Hills Heidi', this spoiled rich girl who I wasn't, would almost destroy me. I'm from really humble beginnings. I've never been this Hollywood diva, but you get caught up in what you're pretending to be."

Montag recently admitted that she would not repeat her plastic surgery experiences and feels that she is constantly trying to live them down in the public eye.

In August 2011, Pratt insisted that reality TV is not a career and that it is impossible to have long-term success through the experience.
