Charlie Sheen donates at least $1m to help wounded US troops

Charlie Sheen has announced plans to donate at least $1m to help wounded US soldiers.

The actor has pledged 1% of the profits from his new show Anger Management to the United Service Organisations (USO), The AP reports.



Sheen said it was "an honour for me to be able to give back to these men and women of the military who have done so much for all of us", adding that there will be no cap on the final amount of the donation.

"They put their lives on the line for us every day, and I'm just happy that my work on Anger Management can bring a little bit of relief to the troops and their families," he added.

The donation, which will go to the Operation Enduring Care initiative, is believed to be the largest single amount ever given to the organisation.

"[Charlie's] support is greatly appreciated, especially from our wounded warriors and their families," the US Air Force's EVP and Joint Chief of Staff General John I Pray Jr said.

Sheen recently expressed an interest in becoming a judge on American Idol.

Anger Management has suffered a ratings dip following its strong debut.
