Oscar-winning actor Ernest Borgnine dies, aged 95

Ernest Borgnine has died at the age of 95.The film and television star, who earned an Academy Award for 'Best Actor' in 1955, passed away on Sunday (July 8) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles from renal failure, according to The AP.

Harry Flynn, the actor's longtime spokesman, confirmed that he died with his family by his side.
In addition to winning an Oscar for his role as a lovelorn butcher in Marty, Borgnine received an Emmy Award nomination for his work on ER at the age of 92.
He is perhaps best known for his role as Dutch in The Wild Bunch, but appeared in over 200 films over the course of his distinguished career.
Borgnine was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Screen Actors' Guild in 2011.
He is survived by fifth wife Tova Traesnaes, whom he married in 1973, as well as sister Evelyn Velardi, daughters Nancee, Sharon and Diana and son Christopher.

RIP. A true legend. He was always my favourite in The Poseidon Adventure. I?m old enough to remember him in many, many films and he always seemed to steal the show. I never realised he was Mermaid Man, but it explains why I liked the character so much! A true great gone.
