Tom Cruise lawyer hopes Katie Holmes divorce won't be "contentious"

Tom Cruise's lawyer has expressed his hope that his client's divorce from Katie Holmes goes smoothly.

Bert Fields, who has been Cruise's legal representative for several years, insisted that he believes the split will not be difficult to negotiate.

"I would hope that it's not a contentious matter," he told the Los Angeles Times.

"I know Tom is not a particularly contentious person," Fields added.

Meanwhile, Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe claimed that the actress is focused mainly on her daughter Suri.

"Katie's primary concern remains, as it has always been, her daughter's best interest," he said.

Finaly, Fields refused to confirm whether the couple had signed a prenuptial agreement.

"I can't comment on that," he said. "It will all come out."

Holmes reportedly hopes to secure full custody of her daughter Suri.

A source previously stated that the divorce will likely be "a very contentious custody battle" as Cruise will want joint custody of the 6-year-old.

Reading all of the articles commenting on Katie Holmes filing for sole custody and the comments in response supporting that the courts/that she and Tom Cruse should have shared parenting, 50/50 custody etc.

Normally I support/endorse shared parenting as a Divorce Coach as being in the best interest of the child absent any special circumstances to warrant a different decision. Issues such as alcohol/drug, criminal history etc.

And because past behavior is the best indicator to future behavior, Holmes team of legal advisers would have been negligent to ignore circumstances of his previous divorce and have rightly determined that she too would follow in the footsteps of Kidman if she did not file for sole custody.

Now before any one stands up and screams another man hater, let me say that if the position was reversed and Katie Holmes had previously been married and her former spouse had little to no contact with the children, I would take the same position in support of Tom Cruise.
