Scarlett Johansson receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame - pictures

Scarlett Johansson has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Avengers star was joined by her co-star in the Marvel Comics movie Jeremy Renner when she was presented with the prestigious accolade on Wednesday (May 2).



Renner - who plays Hawkeye in the motion picture - joked about having a horrible work experience with her.

"Working with her was tremendous... ly awful," he quipped. "For six months, she continuously threw me around, beat me, stepped on me and wiped the floor with my dignity and self-respect every day - all with a smile on her face.

"Now, finally, I get to step on you, sweetheart."



Johansson's mother Melanie Sloan, younger sister Fenan Sloan and grandmother Dorothy Sloan were all present at the ceremony, and she thanked them for "inspiring me to be a strong, modern, independent woman".

The actress made her film debut in 1994's North alongside Elijah Wood.

She plays Black Widow in The Avengers, appearing alongside an ensemble cast including Renner, Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth.

The Avengers - which has already topped box office charts in the UK and in Australia - opens in the US tomorrow (May 4).
