Aussie TV star Tom Williams engaged to fashion designer Rachel Gilbert

Tom Williams and Rachel Gilbert have announced their engagement.

The 41-year-old Australian television star, who is best known for his roles on The Great Outdoors and Dancing with the Stars, proposed to fashion designer Gilbert earlier this week.

According to the Herald Sun, Williams popped the question at Buzo restaurant in Sydney suburb Woollahra, a regular haunt of the couple.

Williams confirmed the rumours on his Twitter page, writing: "Its true! @RachelGilbertau and I are getting married. We are both thrilled and overwhelmed by all our family and friends' love and support."

The couple got together after meeting at the CLEO Bachelor of the Year dinner in April last year. Gilbert is a judge for the magazine's annual competition again this year.

Williams split from Aussie entertainment reporter Kylie Speers back in 2010 after a three year relationship. Speers is now believed to be dating Bondi Vet star Dr Chris Brown.

Brown's former partner Zoe Ventoura is now in a relationship with actor Daniel MacPherson, who has also been romantically linked to Kristi Townley - another rumoured ex-girlfriend of Williams.
