Allen ignorant of McShane's success

Woody Allen has admitted that he was oblivious to Ian McShane's identity and success when he walked in to audition for his latest film.

Although McShane has gained widespread recognition due to his role in the popular television series Deadwood, he can rest assured that it was his talent that got him a starring role in the high-profile director's latest film Scoop.

Allen revealed to WENN: "I was completely unaware of Ian. It was one of those situations where my casting director sends in an actor I've never heard of and I thought he was perfect the minute he walked in."
