Trump 'proud of himself for Obama birth reveal'

Donald Trump has taken credit for the recent release of Barack Obama's long form birth certificate.

The US president revealed the document on Wednesday "so that America can move on to real issues that matter to our future", according to an official statement by the White House.

Trump, who has publicly questioned Obama's birthplace and hired private investigators to look into the matter, told reporters that he feels "proud" of himself for the certificate's release but insisted that he still has some concerns about its validity.

"Today I'm very proud of myself, because I've accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish," he said.

"I want to look at it, but I hope it's true, so that we can get on to much more important matters... he should have done it a long time ago. We have to look at it, we have to see... is it real? Is it proper? What's on it? But I hope it checks out beautifully."

Stars such as Robert De Niro, Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan have all spoken out against Trump's attack on the president.
