has revealed that she has always wanted to be a "superhero".
The 'Girls Fall Like Dominoes'
singer told US Elle
that she would hate to be seen as the "sidekick" to someone else.
"I always wanted to play with the boys," said Minaj. "I didn't want to be a pawn in their game or have a sidekick role. I wanted to be more of a lead character - a superhero.
"I'm fighting for the girls who never thought they could win."
Minaj also said that she would rather be considered funny than sexy. Discussing her duet with Ludacris, 'My Bad Chick', she said: "I chose to do punch lines and be comical, to show how bad I am lyrically, as opposed to how sexy I think I am."
The 26-year-old musician also talked about her outlandish fashion sense, saying: "I lived and shopped in Jamaica, Queens.
"I tend to like booties and really flashy shoes - totally studded out, in five colours with an insane platform."
Minaj recently received praise from Lil Wayne, who called her widespread success a "beautiful thing"
