Museum wants Franklin's inauguration hat

A hat worn by Aretha Franklin while she sung at President Obama's inauguration is being sought by a US government museum.

The grey felt item drew widespread admiration following the Queen Of Soul's rendition of 'My Country 'Tis Of Thee' at the January 20 ceremony.

Franklin has since been approached by the Smithsonian Institution for the hat for an exhibit on the historical day.

The singer said in a statement that it would be hard to part with the hat since the day was "a crowning moment in history". However, she added that she is considering the request.
