Jeremy Hunt almost hit a member of the public with the end of a bell during an interview today (July 27).The culture secretary had been invited to ring a bell after the mass bell-ringing which marked the official start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
"Oops bell broke taking part in Martin Creed's ringing in of the Games...," Hunt later said on Twitter.
"No one hurt but classic #twentytwelve moment."
Turner Prize winner Creed's plan to have all the bells in the UK rung as quickly and loudly as possible for three minutes was titled Work No 1197.
It included the ringing of church bells, doorbells and bicycle bells, while Big Ben rang 40 times in three minutes.
