The homeowner complained of a noise at 11pm on Sunday which, he claimed, sounded like a burglar breaking in with a power drill.
He added that the vibrations were so powerful that they were making the tiles in his kitchen shake, reports Die Welt.
Police were called to the house in Bochum, and on inspection they tracked down the buzzing noise to a shared basement.
There, they found a vibrator which had fallen off a shelf, turned itself on and landed on a pipe.
A similar incident was reported in April 2011 but in Berlin. Police broke down the front door after complaints of an electric drill, but only found a vibrator on the floor.

So a resident hears a strange noise and calls the police. How does that translate to "police mistake burglar for vibrator?"
