The 23-year-old was wearing a beanie, dark glasses and a scarf. He was chased down the street after leaving an Auckland hotel where he was interviewing the X Factor stars.
While some fans eventually realised he wasn't a member of One Direction when he turned around, others weren't so perceptive.
"I said, 'I've got you, I'm not one of them', but they still wanted photos," Parsons told the Sunday Star Times, adding that he enjoyed his brief moment of fame.
"I don't think I could do that every day, but for the three minutes I was posing and running away from the girls I liked the attention."
One Direction performed two shows in Auckland on Saturday (April 21) and are performing another in Wellington today (April 22).
