Rachelle Atkinson in Albuquerque discovered that her ring was gone from the night stand one morning. She usually takes it off before going to bed each night, according to KOB.
She searched for the item in vain with help from her husband Scott before they considered that their dog Coraline may have eaten it.
The basset hound was taken to the vet ten days later, where an X-ray showed the ring in the bottom of her stomach.
Recalling the hunt for the jewellery, Scott said: "I had to go through all the 'poos' every day and squish them up and make sure there were no hard lumps in there. So yeah, that wasn't much fun."
The dog had to undergo surgery so that the ring could be retrieved but has since made a full recovery.
Rachelle, who now keeps her ring safely out of reach of Coraline, commented: "She's a good dog and she's just a wonderful addition to our family, but we'll never forget this - the ring and her have gotten more expensive."

I trust the photo isn't of the dog who ate the ring, it's definitely NOT a Basset Hound!
