Jedward ft. Vanilla Ice: 'Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)'

If you'd told us this time last year that the whole country would be getting really
excited about a pair of hyperactive, spiky-haired twins covering a Vanilla Ice
record, we'd have politely advised you to stop sniffing your Pritt Stick. But, no matter how unlikely, the seemingly unstoppable rise of Jedward from reality novelty to fully-fledged pop act seems complete with this reworking of Robert Van Winkle's 1991 smash. Not even Louis Walsh could have expected the joke to go this far when he selected the Brothers Grimes for the X Factor
Final 12 six months ago.
Successfully dragging Vanilla Ice out of student cheese night hell and back into the mainstream, this track doesn't seem to stand a chance of failing thanks to the X Factor
publicity machine and a hefty dose of nostalgia for the naff rap classic. Cash hasn't exactly been lavished on the production, and Vanilla Ice sounds surprisingly gruff 20 years on, but there's a certain charm to hearing the brothers twist their tongues around the parade of daft raps here ("I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom"). Quite where Jedward go next remains to be seen - can they squeeze out an entire album of corny pop-rap covers? - but this should keep them in industrial-strength styling wax for a little while yet.
