Jay Sean ft. Lil Wayne: 'Down'
Published Oct 17 2009, 08:04 BST | By David Balls

It isn't tricky to see why Sean's latest offering has done so well Stateside. With its Eurodance-meets-R&B beats and heavily-produced vocals, 'Down' is near-indistinguishable from much of the music that dominates the US airwaves. Giving it some extra bite, he's landed the help of top dog Lil Wayne - himself responsible for a US No.1 single and album - who delivers the undeniably trashy killer line: "Honestly, I'm down like the economy." The result is a perfectly serviceable slice of radio pop, but Sean still seems to lack the star quality that's always restricted his success over here.

If I have to be honest, if I was to compare this to any of his other singles they would win. This song has a more poppy edge to it, with simple lyrics, unfortunately echoed over and over again, to me there's too much simplicity in the lyrics, Jay Sean doesn't need to say Down over 20x in this song, it's just a waste of words, Lil' Wayne adds an r&b edge to the song, which clearly isn't enough to save it, him moving to US could signal him giving up and selling out.
