"I guess it proves my point – people still want to hear guitar music. It's my job to keep that X Factor sh*t off the top of the charts," he told NME.
Bugg knocked Mumford & Sons' Babel off the top to number two, while Leona Lewis's third studio album Glassheart debuted at three.
After Rita Ora's number one album in early September, the subsequent artists to reach the top spot have all been guitar-based acts: The Vaccines, The xx, The Killers, Mumford & Sons, Muse and now Jake Bugg.
Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe tweeted after Bugg's win: "Massive congratulations to @JakeBugg - music wins."

Excuse me, but I have never heared of Jake Bugg but he's got a right to criticize The X Factor? I don't care what most people think about The X Factor nowadays, It's a good chance for decent singers to get a break and a career going. Although It may have the odd joke act, it can be serious stuff at times. This Jake Bugg hasn't got a decent voice and is a joke in my eyes. If he becomes Number 1 at Christmas, I'll be shocked.

Guitar-based music has always had an attitude, so judging by all the 'pop fanatics' on here you wouldn't understand. And if you haven't heard of jake bugg maybe you should get out the house and stop watching talent shows and mainstream rubbish and actually look at upcoming artists in magazines, but that's for people who actually have an interest in music and follow it. Not just jump on the trend bandwagon.

Don't say others are jumping on a bandwagon when the only reason you like an artist is because all those magazines that you read tell you to as he's 'real' and the only decent music involves a guitar. Because, if they hadn't told you about him....then you wouldn't know who is either. I listen to the music I want to, not what magazines, radio or shows like X Factor tell me that i should.

Yeah, Jake Bugg isn't mainstream at all. And his record company obviously didn't fund those massive billboards promoting his album...

Be careful of whom you're trashing down on you're way up...Maybe when you had a few more successful albums under your belt, some awards and a status within the scene you might feel cocky enough to make such stupid statement. But, as you're just starting out, you should be more concerned about making a real name for yourself instead of trying to do a Noel Gallagher especially when your boring image and conventional indie music give an indication you might just become more of another Sandi Thom than Paolo Nutini...
