Rihanna, Taylor Swift lead 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards nominations

The nominations for this year's MTV Europe Music Awards have been announced.Rihanna picks up nominations in six categories, while Taylor Swift is given the nod for five awards.

The two singers will go head-to-head in the 'Best Female', 'Best Pop' and 'Best Look' categories. Rihanna is also nominated in the 'Biggest Fans' category, and 'We Found Love' - her collaboration with Calvin Harris - is nominated for 'Best Song' and 'Best Video'.
Swift is in contention for the 'Best Live' and 'Best World Stage' trophies.

Justin Bieber and Katy Perry are nominated in four categories, while Lady GaGa, Lana Del Rey, new American Idol judge Nicki Minaj, fun. and Carly Rae Jepsen each receive three nominations.
This year's EMAs will also see the return of the 'Best Electronic' award - which will be contested by Harris, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Avicii and Skrillex - and the 'Worldwide Act' category.

Votes can be cast from today (Monday, September 17) by visiting the MTV EMAs website. Voting will close at 11.59pm Central European Time on Friday, November 9.
The MTV Europe Music Awards will take place at the Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday, November 11 from 9pm local time, and will be broadcast on MTV channels around the world.
