Spandau Ballet star Tony Hadley will perform a live version of his band's hit 'Gold' to mark the success of Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Great Britain are currently (August 8) third in the medals table with 22 golds, 13 silvers and 13 bronzes, already eclipsing the team's total for Beijing 2008.

On the Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show of Monday, August 13, Absolute Radio will play Spandau Ballet's 1983 hit 'Gold' for every Team GB gold medal - currently 22 times - totalling just under 85 minutes.

Hadley will join the show to sing the Gary Kemp-penned track live for the final play of the 'Spandathon'.

"I'm proud to do it. I think it will be good fun," Hadley told the station.

"Very proud to sing the song, absolutely, and all the Spandau boys will be over the moon about it."

Absolute Radio has also given its doors a golden makeover to mark the games, with former Olympian Kriss Akabusi cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

Asked about the royalties for 'Gold', Hadley told the station: "Look, everyone gets a small piece of it, which is lovely, but you'd have to have a hell of a lot of plays on radio to be a millionaire.

"But seriously I've got to say it's amazing, isn't it? We spoke about it the other day and were wondering if we'd get to 20. Now we're at 22 and we've got four or five days left. It's unbelievable. I'm so proud."
