Jay-Z gave an awesome headline performance last night (June 23) at the end of the first day of Radio 1's Hackney Weekend.
In a set which lasted an hour and ten minutes, the rapper wowed the crowds at Hackney Marshes and at home with 20 tracks (plus two from MIA) and three surprise guests.
Emerging in darkness with a hood on his head and Rihanna by his side, he began by launching into 'Run This Town'.
Rihanna then left, and Jay-Z went on to hold the stage on his own, performing tracks including 'Dirt Off Your Shoulder' and 'I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)'.
Performing 'Public service Announcement', he demanded lighters in the air. Then, after 'U don't know Me', he said: "That's a good start, but I need you all to turn it all the way up, let me hear how much noise you can make out there." Telling the crowd their effort was '70', he asked for more, counting up from 90 to launch into '99 Problems'.
He later used MIA to take a break, leaving the stage to let her take over with renditions of 'Paper Planes' and 'Bad Girls', although the performance was briefly marred by mic problems.
With the camera giving glimpses of Beyoncé dancing in the crowd, Twitter was awash with hope that she would join her husband on stage, but it wasn't to be.
Instead, after performing 'Empire State of Mind' and leaving the stage with the crowd chanting for more, he returned with Kanye West and an American flag in the background, launching into tracks including 'Otis' and 'Who Gon Stop Me', which they finished a capella.
As well as seeing Beyoncé continuing to enjoy herself, Rizzle Kicks were visible in the audience, and Jack White, nodding at the side, got a shout-out.
Jay-Z rounded off his set with a performance of 'Ni**as in Paris' and a request for a scream, with the audience complying.
