Lil Wayne has explained his reasons for cancelling Nicki Minaj's set at Hot 97's Summer Jam earlier this month. The rapper told the event's organisers that Minaj would not be performing at the concert after Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg insulted her single 'Starships' in front of the crowd.

"That's a female; first and foremost Nicki Minaj is a female. I don't know what anyone else believes, but I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times no matter, when or where or how," Lil Wayne told MTV.
"As soon as she called me and told me she felt disrespected, I just declined everything. I pulled her from the show because no person that works with me will be disrespected in my presence as long as I'm on this planet."
He added: "I expect the red carpet, in her manner; the pink carpet should be laid out for her."
However, the star insisted that he doesn't have an issue with New York's Hot 97.
"It's just an executive move, no salt, no bad feelings, no hard feelings," he said. "I feel like a woman should be respected at all times, therefore I made the right decision."
Minaj recently confirmed that 'Pound The Alarm' will be the next single to be lifted from her second album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.

Ugh, hate men who pull the "all women should be respected" line. How about just 'people' full stop?

Used to love her but now she has gone pop, and don't think she is hip hop because she is NOT, I think she's alienating a lot of her fans that helped her get any success. Sorry Minaj but if the next album isn't proper hip hop then I wont be bothering. Let's hope Missy Elliott returns with her next album this year and shows her how a rap veteran does it.

Women should always be respected? I don't think his lyrics reflect that statement.
