Tickets will go on sale from the venue itself from 12pm, according to NME.

Maxïmo Park will play tracks from their previous three albums, as well as trying out brand new tracks from upcoming album The National Health ahead of further live dates next month.

Frontman Paul Smith said: "We are playing The Cluny because we felt like it. It's as simple as that, and they were kind enough to allow us back to one of our old haunts."

The band confirmed the news on their website, stating: "Hey, guess what we're doing tonight? if you guessed 'playing a show at the Cluny in Newcastle Upon Tyne', then you were right. It's only 7 quid to get in, but you'll have to be quick smart to get tickets at the Cluny box office from 12pm today. Good luck!"

Smith added on Twitter: "Busy day ahead preparing a set of cherry-picked old songs and lots of new material for our surprise gig at @thecluny tonight. Excited!"

The National Health will be released on June 11.
