The Backstreet Boys have said that they will record their new album in 2012.The 'I Want It That Way' boyband had previously revealed exclusively to Digital Spy in October their plans for an eighth studio LP.
Singer Howie Dorough told Clevver Music: "That's one of the things that we're going to be happening this next year, is we're going to be in the studio working on a new record."

Dorough, who is joined in the group by Brian Littrell, Nick Carter and AJ McLean, went on to emphasise the importance of each new record sounding fresh.
"That's always the challenge working on new albums; trying to push the envelope, trying to always top the last album. But that's what we do," the star continued.
"That's one of the reasons why we take our time to make the record the best it can be. To not rush it and to keep your finger on the pulse of what's hot."

Matti Buzz Butler - I wrote a timeline, lol. You can see they were busy with various other things. AJ's issues, recurring tho they may have been since then, did not initially last for three years straight. He was better by September 2001 when they finished the Black & Blue tour in the US & then they took it overseas in early 2002. Summer 2002 Nick worked on his solo record while Brian took care of his pregnant wife, & late 2002 Brian's son was born (this was important cuz he was the first Backstreet Baby) & so Brian wanted to spend time with his wife & son at home, during which Nick did his solo tour & they decided they'd take a year off- 2003 to 2004- until Brian's son was old enough to travel with them.
In 2004, they began working officially on their next album, with mostly performances overseas, featuring the new material (which also began to leak online). Yes, after the successful "return" in 2005, they spent 2006 to 2007 on Unbreakable & that is when Kevin decided he'd rather raise his family at home instead of on the road (understandable). If he comes back now, it would be because his son is older (he'll be 5 this summer) & like Brian (& Howie, whose own son is going on 3 in May), he can take his family on tour with him.
The biggest thing is ppl think just cuz they take "breaks" or don't put out an album every single year, that they must have "broken up" / given up or quit, etc. & I really despise that perception, heh since it is usually never true; which the most serious/devoted/dedicated fans already kno!
