The 'Beat Again' singers, whose 2010 track 'The Club Is Alive' featured heavy use of vocal effects, said that they shouldn't be criticised because they can still sing their music live.
Aston Merrygold told Bang Showbiz: "If you get critics come and see the show, we can sing it live, so what's the problem? It's kind of pointless for them to criticise."
Bandmate Oritsé Williams explained that their sound is part of a "new school generation" of pop.
Williams commented: "Music has moved forward in such an amazing way, and we are in a new school generation and [for] that generation, stuff like music effects, auto tune and sampling is part of that."
JLS have insisted that they will continue to use vocal effects because their fans like them.
Marvin Humes added: "It's all about people wanting that in the music, so we will deliver it to them."
JLS recently pulled out of their set at T4 On The Beach over production problems.

The Club Is Alive is ruined by the sample and the use of Auto-Tune. I dont understand the belief that people in the industry think that an uptempo song must consist of Auto-Tune and dance beats. It doesnt so you cannot defend that song or She Make Me Wanna. But they can sing. They just arent good songwriters at all

I LOVE autotune when it's done as an effect like Ke$ha.... but Club Is Alive had too much for me because it didn't even sound like a human singing.

What are you on about it's just a shitty when katy perry does it. No-one denies that. She was horrible when she sang live last year on X-factor.

Are the critics stupid? Autotune isn't used to correct vocal issues to avoid further takes, it's used to add vocoder style effects!
