The actor suggested that it is quite likely he will reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier, reports Newsarama.
"I think there is every possibility," he said during a Q&A session at the 2012 Montreal Comic Convention.
He began to enthusiastically list his female co-stars on the trilogy.
"Yes, I'll be reprising..." he added before being cut off by his actor son Daniel Stewart, who started to list his father's male co-stars.
James McAvoy portrayed Professor X in 20th Century Fox's most recent instalment of the franchise, X-Men: First Class.
The follow-up, X-Men: Days of Future Past, will be based on the famous comics storyline of the same name.
The original two-issue tale features time travel, which could pave the way for both actors to play the character.
