Warner Bros will soon receive a script from Akiva Goldsman, with the intention of making a decision on whether to greenlight the first installation of the ambitious and troubled project within the next two weeks.
The Dark Tower centres around Deschain, the last of an order of warriors called the Gunslingers, who travels with his motley companions through a crumbling world in search of the titular hub of all reality.
The seven-volume series has spawned numerous Marvel Comics adaptations and, recently, a new novel The Wind Through the Keyhole.
Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Goldsman initially envisioned the project as several films linked by television series.
Warner Bros rescued the project earlier this year after it was abandoned by Universal Pictures over budgetary concerns.
Javier Bardem was previously connected to the role of Deschain.
Crowe will star in the upcoming Noah and Man of Steel.

Just make it already! The series/movie plan is awesome, been hearing about it for years now. HBO has proved themselves with Game of Thrones, this could be the next feather in their cap.

A HBO TV series would suit the books better than movies.

Based on great books that will be a trilogy of feature films and two seasons of a television series (hopefully on HBO) to bridge gaps between the films.
