Disney has confirmed its Big Hero 6 plans.

The film will become the first animated Marvel Comics feature from the studio since it acquired the publisher.

Disney reps confirmed the rumours of the adaptation of the Japanese superteam comic to Entertainment Weekly.

The team launched in 1998 with the line-up of Sunfire, Silver Samurai, GoGo Tomago, Honey Lemon, Hiro Takachiho and Baymax. It was most recently seen in Dan Slott's Amazing Spider-Man storyline 'Ends of the Earth'.

The Big Hero 6 adaptation may not feature the original line-up, as 20th Century Fox control the film rights to Sunfire and Silver Samurai as part of the X-Men franchise.

Marvel Studios is expected to announce a Guardians of the Galaxy movie in the coming weeks, with a release date already rumoured for May 16, 2014.
