Blonde was in pre-production with Naomi Watts attached to play Monroe at the same time that Simon Curtis's My Week with Marilyn was in pre-production.
Blonde did not move forward according to plans, but My Week with Marilyn arrived in cinemas and went on to be nominated for Oscars this year.
It is not clear if Watts, who is portraying Princess Diana in an upcoming biopic, will join the project again.
Pitt and Dominik worked together on Killing Them Softly, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2012.
Killing Them Softly will arrive at cinemas on September 21 in the US and the UK.

With Caught in Flight still in production, I don't know if Naomi Watts will be available, but if she already signed on to play her, then we could expect her to return to the role once it starts filming. She's the only decent actress who could pull it off, especially with her previous work in Mulholland Dr and 21 Grams in which she does the tragic, martyred blonde so well. Without her, I don't think Dominik will find anyone worthy to portray MM.

I don't think Watts should do it. She looks the part, and is a talented actress, but I think she's a little too old now...
