Tom Hiddleston: 'I thought I'd been rubbish in Thor'

Tom Hiddleston has revealed that he had thought that his Thor performance had been "rubbish".

The actor has said that he did not initially expect to return in as Loki in The Avengers and certainly not in a starring role.



Hiddleston told Assignment X that he had been told he was in line for more Marvel films, "but there was no guarantee that it was going to be such a big part, I think".

He continued: "I also felt like I'd been rubbish in Thor [and] there was no way I was going to come back.

"So it was one step at a time and I was very lucky that, as we were coming to the end of shooting Thor, [Kenneth] Branagh showed Joss [Whedon] a rough cut of the film and Joss loved it.

"He loved what Ken had done with it and was really about what Chris [Hemsworth] and I had done on it."



Hiddleston concluded: "[Whedon] said, 'I want to take that relationship and make the stakes higher. You've got these two brothers who are fighting each other and now what's at stake is the fate of Planet Earth, because that's what's going on'."

The Avengers became the top grossing film on its first and second weekends in cinemas.
