The actor stars in Lee Daniels's The Paperboy as a country lawyer trying to get an innocent man off death row.
He also appears in the Jeff Nichols film Mud, which closed out the festival on Saturday (May 26) and is competing for the top prize against Brad Pitt's Killing Me Softly and Robert Pattinson's Cosmopolis.
McConaughey has revealed that he is equally proud of both of his roles in The Paperboy and Mud.
He told The AP: "I'm really, really endeared to both of them for different reasons - and they're very, very different from each other.
"I'm very honoured. I've got two films that I'm proud of, two experiences that I really loved, and I've got two characters that I really care about."
The 42-year-old actor will next be seen in the Steven Soderbergh comedy drama Magic Mike, alongside Channing Tatum.

the paperboy didnt get favourable reviews from what i've read and the brad pitt film looks good so imo i reckon it would be between killng me softly and cosmopolis.
