The Avengers star revealed that he would be interested in continuing to play the superhero for a long time, provided that the movies are good.
"I would really hate for someone else to think they could step into my shoes," Downey Jr told MTV News.
"I know things are looking like that they could go on for a long while," he continued. "As usual in my book, it's all about quality control and delivering a product that you can have this kind of reaction to.
"If they keep doing that, maybe I'll keep showing up," he finished.
The 47-year-old recently likened the superhero ensemble film The Avengers to a "complicated pregnancy".

He IS Tony Stark.
