"I'm not doing that. I was attached for a while, but I'm no longer attached," Bana told The Hollywood Reporter at the Tribeca Film Festival following a screening of his latest movie Deadfall.

Bana was announced last year to star opposite Danny Huston's Richard Nixon in Elwes's directorial debut.

Elvis & Nixon is based around a meeting the pair had in 1970, when Presley travelled to the White House to request that he be made a federal agent at large on the war on drugs.

Bana was also linked to diamond thriller Brilliant.

However, he was replaced by Gerard Butler in order for Bana to join an as-yet-untitled terrorism thriller from Intermission director John Crowley.

He will next be seen as a murderous fugitive opposite Olivia Wilde, Kris Kristofferson and Sissy Spacek in Deadfall.
