'Stretch Armstrong' movie gets writer for screenplay

The screenwriter - best known for work on titles including Denzel Washington's The Manchurian Candidate and Tristan + Isolde - will write the film, Variety reports.
Georgaris also wrote Paycheck and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. He was an executive producer on What Happens in Vegas.
The Stretch Armstrong movie started out as a joint project between Hasbro, who make the toys, and Universal Pictures, with Twilight's Taylor Lautner originally tipped to star in the title role.
Nicholas Stoller (The Five-Year Engagement, Get Him to the Greek) was originally attached as screenwriter when the project was on Universal's development slate.
The film is now in development at Relativity Media, in association with Hasbro, and it is thought that the studio wants to develop the project as a realistic, action-based family movie.
Stretch Armstrong has been given a provisional release date of April 11, 2014.

The fact that they're getting Taylor Lautner to portray the role of Stretch Armstrong is an outrage. Such a classic toy deserves a bit of respect, I'm not too keen on a cinema full of screaming girls who couldn't give a damn about Stretch Armstrong, rather they come to gawp at Taylor Lautner. I've seen videos on youtube regarding the stretch armstrong movie being made, and about 99.9% of the comments were from Twilight fans who didn't even know who stretch armstrong was.
Jim Carrey would have been great for the role as his face is basically like rubber and he can pull off any expression. Not only that, but he looks a lot like the later stretch armstrong. His age could have just been covered with makeup or computer effects.
Anyway, you just know they're going to alter this movie in such a way that it will ruin it, somehow I doubt they're going to whiten Taylor Lautner up, give him a blonde wig and make the film full of humour. We'll see. Whatever happens I'll be hoping the villain is Vac-Man from the nineties series of stretch armstrong toys.

Give it a few years and they'll start making movie adaptations of whatever is lying around their offices. Stapler: The Movie coming 2015.

When I was a kid I used to love playing with it, pulling it, swinging it around, stroking it and I even let girls play with it! I also had a Stretch Armstrong.
