She has been shortlisted alongside Haley Bennett to head Kimberly Peirce's upcoming version of the classic horror tale, reports Vulture.
The pair have won out against contenders including Dakota Fanning (Twilight), Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), Bella Heathcote (In Time) and Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror).
Jodie Foster has reportedly been approached by Peirce for the part of Carrie's tyrannical mother, with Julianne Moore also under consideration.
The Stephen King novel was famously adapted by Brian De Palma in 1976 into the Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie-starring movie.
Peirce is said to be sticking closer to the source material for her take on Carrie.
15-year-old Moretz is known for her mature horror role in Let Me In and foul-mouthed child vigilante in Kick-Ass. She recently starred in Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning Hugo.
Bennett has appeared in horror film The Hole and Gregg Araki's Kaboom.

THIS FILM DOES NOT NEED TO BE REMADE. MAKE SOMETHING NEW FOR CHRIST'S SAKE.

Jodie Foster or Julianne Moore as the psycho mother? GOD YES.

Personally, I don't mind remakes as often they can bring something new, and very often those films that we revere as ‘classics’ date very badly and so don’t get the love from a new audience that was lavished upon them when they were first released. Carrie is a classic, but it has also dated badly, though admittedly Sissy Spacek’s performance is still top-notch. There is also a second advantage; very often when a film is remade, the older, wiser, more informed audience, say, ‘Ah, but you should see the original’, and then proudly dust of an old video or DVD and show an old master to a new, eager, younger audience. With the suggested cast, this remake could well be worth seeing.

God, do they have to remake everything? Is nothing sacred?
