The Juno co-writer first signed up to write the screenplay for a movie version of Francine Pascal's series of novels back in 2009.
Cody explained that the project was still on, and that she hopes it will have a "nostalgic" value.
She told The Playlist: "[The movie] is moving forward. I need to talk to the producers and see how much I can say about it. It's closer to reality than ever but I can't freely talk about it.
"I want it to be wonderfully nostalgic," she added. "I want it to be to the '80s what American Graffiti was to the [early] '60s. I want it to be looking back on a really cool time and enjoying yourself and I want it to be glamorous and colorful and bubblegum and a feast for the senses. That's my plan."
The Sweet Valley series centres on identical twins with very different personalities. A TV series ran for 88 episodes between 1994 and 1997 on Fox and UPN.

It annoys me how they always mention the crap 90's TV show. They could of made an amazing TV show based on the books like a Gossip girl or 90210 thing. If this movie gets made I hope it's amazing and does the books justice.
