I liked the movie for many things, however there were many points in the story that were not properly explained to us and the genesis of the xenomorph is very interesting but rather hard to follow. I do not blame Ridley Scott for not wanting to directly show off the original alien from the first or second movie since the series was milked. But to that point if he never intends to show even a proper LIVING glimpse of the original alien in this movie or the next, it makes it very hard to connect it to the first movie. Which is frustrating to hardcore fans and confusing to people who are new to the series (my sister was asking me a million questions because of it and she is new). The good things about this movie is the chance to learn of the Space Jockey's, seeing the alien DNA, the characters are memorable, the atmosphere was amazing, and the graphic nature of this movie was great to watch. P.S. I love how there was not nearly as much profanity in this movie as there are in the previous films ;). 4/5 is my score for it.

made a lovely change to see some new pure adult scifi for once, i'd forgotten how much this genre is under-used now

I thought it was great, the only reason I scored it 4/5 not 5/5 is because I felt the musical score was a bit off (would have preferred a creepier 'alien' sort of score not the Superman inspired soundtrack we got) and I also felt too much time was spent building up, I have no problem with suspense + build up but I felt Prometheus spent too much time building and building only for nothing much to be shown at the end of it. But still I really liked it, I hope they make a sequel.

Totally agree on the score man. The Superman music was totally out of place. Why didnt they go music similar to the trailers!?! The trailers had magnificent emotional music before going into some tense 'doom is coming' type music. Loved the trailers. They should have run with that stuff more. The score is far more important than people give credit to.

Prometheus so far just seems to be pissing off fanboys and critics who were expecting Alien-redux. The masses overall are enjoying the flick - far more than John Carter for example. I think this was Fox's intention all along, to make a film with Alien "DNA" but really watered down in tone with a few sexy faces in the mix. To their credit, they've never suggested it was going to be anything else. It's our expectations that feel let down. But they weren't making a film for the hardcore, but for the LOST generation.
$35m and number one in 14 countries, outperforming the closest competitor by 319% in the UK...I think we'll get a sequel alright, and I for one don't mind - because I live in 2012 and understand that movies with $150m budgets are never going to be indie horror flicks.
It's all about economics folks, and that affects everything from the story and kind of edit we finally see. Blu-Ray is the domain of the fan who wants extras, braver cuts etc. But general release? When Twilight and Transformers are the model they want to repeat, we're lucky to have Prometheus at all.
It's a good, solid entertaining flick - yes it has flaws, probably because it tries to do too much, and there's definitely a better edit out there, but overall, a perfectly decent sci-fi action movie.
