They were picked up by other publications, but St James's Palace sent legal letters to British newspapers, claiming that publishing the images would constitute an intrusion into the Prince's privacy.
However, the pictures will now run in tomorrow's (August 24) edition of The Sun accompanied by the headline 'Heir it is!' and the sub-heading 'Pic of naked Harry you've already seen on the internet'.
St James's Palace has responded to the announcement by saying: "Newspapers regulate themselves, so the publication of the photographs is ultimately a decision for editors to make."
The Sun's managing editor David Dinsmore said that the publication came to the decision in order to protect "the freedom of the press".
Video - Sun managing editor David Dinsmore explains Prince Harry photo decision:
"We've thought long and hard about this. The Sun is a responsible paper and it works closely with the Royal family. We take heed of their wishes," he said.
"We're also big fans of Prince Harry, he does a huge amount of work for this country and for the military and for the image of both of those institutions.
"We are not against him letting his hair down once in a while. For us this is about the freedom of the press.
"This is about the ludicrous situation where a picture can be seen by hundreds of millions of people around the world on the internet, but can't be seen in the nation's favourite paper read by eight million people every day."

Neil Wallis, the former executive editor of the News of the World, previously said that British newspapers' decision not to print the photos showed they had been "neutered" by the Leveson Inquiry.
Harry won the support of Digital Spy readers following the scandal, with 62.2% saying his antics were "fantastic".

To be fair to The Sun, they COULD'VE published the photos days ago, but they held back. Their argument is that the pics are already everywhere, so it wouldn't make much difference now. That's fair enough
