ITV has today unveiled its new 24-hour rolling news website, which is being launched in beta ahead of this week's Budget 2012 announcement. The service, optimised for mobile devices and tablets, features "broadcast quality" video around real-time rolling news updates in a "slick and efficient" digital product.

It will draw on ITV's regional and national news-gathering operations, offering journalists a quick and effective tool to break the latest stories online.
Produced in collaboration with digital creative agency Made By Many, the new site will go into beta this week ahead of Wednesday's Budget announcement from the Chancellor.
Alongside content from ITV journalists, the rolling news site also reflects the 'conversations' around breaking news stories on social media platforms such as Twitter.
ITV's director of news and current affairs Michael Jermey said: "Our digital news service will give people a great new way to follow breaking news wherever they are.
"It will offer fantastic broadcast quality video and will cover not only the top national and international news of the day but will also provide a strong regional service."
Julian March, the head of digital media at ITV News & Sport, added: "ITV News is a vast 24-hour news-gathering machine packed with breaking news content and exclusives from award-winning journalists.
"We are therefore incredibly excited about creating a platform which allows us to begin to unleash the full power of that machine in the digital space.
"The new site is all about providing real-time news for the digital age and enabling our quality journalism to reach an even wider audience online and on demand."

bbc news has all the licence fee cash to invest in it, but at itn cash is low. better to have other news output than to allow bbc to become only main news provider as many times bbc news is basis towards one or other people or companies in the news. wish itv lunchtime news would move back to 12.30!

Quite. To be honest though, employment of some people aside, ITV News hasn't really served any useful purpose for quite a while. Nationally or regionally. If Ofcom let them close down ITN (or whoever produces it these days) tomorrow, I'm sure they would.

They did have a channel on digital TV once but it closed. This is possibly a cheaper way of doing the same thing.

I didn't think ITV had any newsgathering resources left these days... I'm also confused by reference to ITV's "quality journalism" and their "vast 24hour news machine" - has this been hiding away until today?

Well, lets hope it does better than the ITV news channel (RIP).
