Rather than retell the events of the movie, the game will pick up where the movie leaves off as Wreck-It Ralph and Fix-It Felix team up to rescue their friends from a Cy-bug invasion.
The game will be available exclusively on Nintendo platforms, releasing for the Wii, DS and 3DS this autumn to coincide with the film.
The Wii version will feature co-operative multiplayer, allowing players to control both Ralph and Felix to take advantage of their unique abilities.
The movie Wreck-It Ralph tells the story of the titular villain who goes on a journey that sees him jumping from arcade games to video games to prove he can be a hero.
It features cameos from many classic video game characters, including Nintendo's own leading bad guy, Bowser.
Activision is billed as the primary publisher, despite the game being based on a Disney film. No development studio has been named for the title.
Directed by Rich Moore, the film Wreck-It Ralph arrives in cinemas on November 2 in the US and February 15, 2013 in the UK.
