It also set first-week sales records in Japan, becoming the best-selling new property launch in ten years.
It failed to top the charts in the UK, however, releasing the same week as Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
Dragon's Dogma's story centres around The Arisen, a hero whose fate is tied to a powerful dragon that terrorises the land.
The game sees players adventure across an expansive open world, fighting huge mythical creatures such as a hydra, a manticore and a griffin.
Players are also accompanied by pawns - companion characters who the player can give commands to and use to coordinate attacks.
The game was created by a team that worked on some of Capcom's biggest titles, including Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 4.
