After a brief period of re-evaluation, EA has decided against tweaking and re-releasing the app, opting instead to ditch the free-to-play shooter.
"In the interest of bringing consumers only the highest level of quality mobile entertainment, EA Mobile has decided to suspend development and support of Battlefield 3: Aftershock and refocus its resources on other titles," reads a statement issued to Vox Games.
"The Aftershock servers will be live through March 31, 2012, and customers who have already downloaded the game can continue to play until then."
Battlefield 3: Aftershock was a cross promotion between Battlefield 3 and the upcoming movie Act of Valor, with the game's single level inspired by the film.
The game was compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3rd generation and above devices running the 4.0 operating system or later.
Battlefield 3 broke EA's records by shipping 10 million copies worldwide when it released last October on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

I think they mean "In the interest of saving us a bit of cash EA Mobile has decided to suspend development and support of Battlefield 3: Aftershock and instead count the billions we have sitting around in the bank doing nothing", if they they were that concerned with "highest level of quality mobile entertainment" they would tweak it and re-release it without issue.
