The next Dragon Age
game will feature multiplayer for the first time, it has been reported.
An anonymous insider told Kotaku
that a multiplayer Dragon Age
game is already in development. The game features arena-based battles, allowing players to fight each other or team up against computer controlled enemies.
Dragons are also said to be playable in the game, though it is unknown whether that indicates a dragon character or a new transformation ability for mage characters.
The game is being developed with DICE's Frostbite 2.0 engine, most recently used by Battlefield 3
and Need for Speed: The Run
announced earlier this year that Mass Effect 3
will feature the co-operative Galaxy at War multiplayer mode
to complement the single player campaign. It is possible that Dragon Age III
could incorporate multiplayer in a similar fashion.
However, using a new game engine for the series, like Frostbite 2.0, could also indicate a spinoff multiplayer title rather than a full sequel for the series.Dragon Age II was released earlier this year, receiving praise for its quicker action-based combat system.
