PlayStation 4 launching after competition "undesirable", says Sony

SCEE boss Jim Ryan has hinted that its next console may not give the competition much of a head start, like it did with the Xbox 360 and Wii this console generation.
"I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition [with the next PlayStation]," he told Eurogamer.
While there has been considerable speculation about an Xbox successor launching in the next few years and the release of the Wii U confirmed for 2012, there has been very little talk of PS4's arrival.
Ryan responded to the arrival of other new consoles by saying that the PlayStation 3 had plenty of "unfinished business".
"If you look at PlayStation 2, now in excess of 150m units installed globally, a huge majority of that was done at price points of £120 or lower," he said.
"[With PS3] we've only just hit £199 in the UK, so clearly there's a considerable untapped part of the market there."
Earlier this year Sony said it was not thinking about a successor, while a rumour suggested that the PS4 would launch in 2012 with Kinect controls.

All the consoles hardware is very outdated though due to optimisation they have managed to put out some decent graphics, what really holds the consoles back however is the lack of Vram on the gpu for texures and native 1080p or even 720 in come cases..though the best looking games are the exclusvies like MGS4 and uncharted...i feel we need some more power to really push games for stuff like tessellation and 3D.
Take any multi platform game running on pc it simply wipes the floor with any console graphic wise.

Strange how Playstation fans always point out how powerful the PS3 is when the 360 has outsold it but when referring to the PS2 always talk about sales as it was the least powerful of the generation.
If you look at market growth then Microsoft will be in the driving seat going into the next gen.
I have them both and to be honest they're practically the same. Just good to have 2 consoles on the maket that are able to turn a decent profit. Competition pushes the industry to be better.

I think that the Wii U will sell really well, the Wii had massive sales compared to the PS3 and the 360 all be it with different release dates. Sony will have to respond to what Microsoft do as they are their main competitors. While I agree the the PS3 still has a long life left once it has been fully exploited Sony will speed up the release of the PS4. As for Microsoft making "dumbasses" of them selves, well, 2 versions of their next console and TV integration with Kinect that is a smart move.

Everyone saying Sony should not rush with the PS4 because the PS3 still has a lot of life left. While it is true that the PS3 has a lot of life left Sony need to think about if the PS3 is compromised in regards to being fully hacked then they will more than likely go early on the PS4. The 360 is been completely blown open with piracy and trust me the PS3 is not that far behind. Microsoft have a good business plan in regards to 2 versions of their next console and building Kinect into TV sets. It will not go the same way as 360 and PS3, each companies next consoles will be released pretty close together and lets face it, that is what is best for the gamer.
