Square Enix has registered both games on the digital distribution service but won't release them for technical reasons, according to RPG Site.
Despite tweaking both Final Fantasy titles to make them compatible with modern operating systems, they frequently crash to the desktop. rendering them unplayable.
The report added that both games have been available on Steam in their entirety since sometime last year.
Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII were ported to PC several years after their respective PlayStation releases.
Both games have since been re-released on PlayStation Network for PlayStation 3 and PSP.
Square Enix has previously expressed interest in a Final Fantasy VII remake due to a high volume of requests from fans.

I have seen some attempts at this though none of them was actually a real game that was playable but if they do have a next gen version of them id like to see it 1st, VII ill believe cause I have seen a video of the intro but VIII no I haven't and iv been searching 3 years or more unless I'm looking in the wrong places anyways I just hope this doesn't turn into a hoax to get our hopes up skyhigh.

Definitely some editing needed on this report. The first 2 paragraphs mention that FF VII and VIII have been considered or registered with Steam. The the next paragraph says they're both been available on Steam in their entirety for a year. This is just not true, and completely contradicts the rest of the story.
It's possible it means that the game data is on Steam, which is possible, but neither game has ever been available to download.
As to whether they should, I've played both on PC back in the day, and FFVII was great if you had the right sound card, and FF VIII was very flaky indeed. Both took a lot of configuring to get running well.

Unless you like to mess around with patches/hacks/trainers etc in the PC versions, then it's better to just get the PSX editions. As they are practically the same anyway.
