The book charts the history of the portrayal of black characters in comic books over 100 years from patronising early images in The Katzenjammer Kids, through Tintin in the Congo and The Spirit to modern superheroes and titles like The Boondocks.
The new edition features over a dozen new entries about significant publications and portrayals.
It also includes an introduction by Middle Passage author Charles R Johnson.
Black Images in the Comics is currently scheduled for release in July.
