The DC Comics co-publisher also indicated that more follow-ups to Watchmen may be forthcoming.
DiDio told The Guardian that if Moore reads the prequels, he hopes he "looks at them with an open mind and a chance to understand this is a love letter to what he created, and more importantly that the strength of his work is allowing other people to grow and tell other stories which will hopefully inspire other creators along the way".
DiDio added: "In the way he was inspired by the creators when he was younger, we're hoping these ideas and these books are inspiring new people, so that we continue to grow the comics business as a whole."
When asked about further tie-ins, DiDio said: "Let's wait and see how these work first. At this point the audience will decide that."
DC's plans to revive the celebrated 1986 miniseries have been dogged by controversy.
Moore has described the comics industry as the "original gangsters", while DiDio's co-publisher Jim Lee said that the veteran writer should have read his contract more carefully.
Before Watchmen will launch in June.

@Tom Beers, I'm not an idiot; of course I won't read it if I object to it. Just feel sad that it's symptomatic of DC comics' real lack of originality, which is a shame as they were a publisher I used to absolutely adore.

Surely you can say the same for Marvel as well? Nothing has changed there in a real way since the 60s. Sure, there's been the occasional grey Hulk here and Iron Patriot there but things are pretty static aside from cosmetic changes

A love letter that the recipient has repeatedly said he doesn't want, yet they're insisting on giving him anyway. So stalking and harassment, basically.

Personally, I think it's less 'love letter' and more 'spunk stain' to be honest.

Classy. But more beside the point it's simple. Don't like the idea? Don't freakin' read it, it's just a comic book.
