Alia Bhatt has revealed she did not want to make her acting debut in a film produced by her father Mahesh Bhatt.
The 19-year-old stars opposite fellow newcomers Siddarth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan in the upcoming Student of the Year.
She told New Kerala: "I was already sorted and decided that I wouldn't be launched by my father's production company.
"Honestly speaking, it's the easy option. Why wouldn't my father launch me? But I wanted to go somewhere else. I had to audition for it, I had to lose weight and present myself in a way that I can be accepted."
Mahesh Bhatt is best known for making controversial films such as Jism and Murder 2, which both star his nephew Emraan Hashmi.
