She can currently be seen opposite Saif Ali Khan in the romance Cocktail.
The actress told IANS: "I would like to do women-centric movies. In fact, for me I feel Veronica [in Cocktail] is that. I think, for me, the journey has already begun."
Padukone recently revealed the character she plays took her out of her "comfort zone".
She has said that she chose the role in order to avoid rehashing her character in Love Aaj Kal.
The Aarakshan star said: "I was offered both the roles [in the film] - Veronica and Meera. My producer Dinu [Dinesh Vijan] was kind enough to offer me both the roles and say, 'Listen, I have two characters for you. Now it's up to you to choose which one you want to do'."
