Khan told DNA India
: "Once I was very upset and had locked myself in the room and when [my daughter Suhana] came, I told her I was sad, so she asked me how long will you be sad.
"And I said maybe two hours and she came back after two hours and asked me if I was better and I just let her in and hugged her for a long time. I felt that just quantifying sadness had helped me get rid of it, so it was okay.
"So, yes, I always teach my daughter that it's perfectly alright to be sad. You feel sad, you show it. You get happy and you show that too."
Khan added: "You know, I think we Indians are afraid to show and celebrate our happiness, lest things change around. But I feel that it's okay to be sad and okay to show when you are happy."
The veteran star recently admitted that his experiences of failure in the past five years have made him a humble person
